Project Assistant

The Architectural League seeks a motivated and self-directed intern to serve as Project Assistant for Urban Omnibus. The Project Assistant plays an integral part in a small editorial team committed to interdisciplinary exploration of design and the built environment in New York City.

Responsibilities extend across all aspects of the monthly digital publication, and include editorial support, research and development of new features and special projects, and communications and audience building. Working for Urban Omnibus is a great opportunity to develop wide-ranging editorial experience and exposure to developments in contemporary architecture and urbanism. The Project Assistant will also engage with the Architectural League’s full range of programming.

The ideal candidate will have strong writing and editorial skills, and a demonstrable interest in architecture and urbanism. Experience in graphic design, mapping, or audiovisual documentary production are a plus.

Terms:

Candidates should be available 30 hours per week and be able to commit to a 10-week period. Hours are flexible, though regularity in schedule is preferred. The project assistant will receive an unlimited monthly Metrocard and receive compensation of $15/hour. Candidates should be available to begin by June 1, 2019.

Managing Editor

The Architectural League seeks a Managing Editor of Urban Omnibus, a full-time position beginning in late spring 2019. Urban Omnibus is The Architectural League’s online publication dedicated to observing, understanding, and shaping the city. Reporting to the Editor in Chief, the Managing Editor plays a key role in a small editorial team committed to the interdisciplinary exploration of design and the built environment in New York City.

The ideal candidate is a highly motivated and intellectually curious individual with excellent writing and editing skills, substantial disciplinary knowledge of architecture and urbanism, and a deep interest in the role these play in the broader culture of the city. This position requires experience in WordPress/HTML, keen attention to detail, and a good eye. A degree in architecture, planning or another urbanism/design field (or equivalent experience) is essential; graphic or other documentary/media production skills highly valued.

The Managing Editor’s role extends across all aspects of the monthly digital publication. Core responsibilities include managing the editorial process, developmental work with contributors, copyediting and proofreading, image research and editing, communications and audience engagement. The Managing Editor will also have the opportunity to develop and commission new content, contribute to special series and projects, and author features.

This is a full-time position in the Architectural League’s office in Lower Manhattan. The League offers a competitive salary and benefits package.
