Join us at UnionDocs on November 20th to celebrate the incomparable cinematic landscapes of Peter Hutton (1944-2016). Little-known in the world of urbanism, Hutton’s films are treasured in avant-garde cinema. On a Sunday evening, skip Netflix for a rare opportunity to see Hutton’s singular metropolitan meditations.

A merchant seaman turned filmmaker, Hutton made portraits of places around the globe. Close to home, Hutton captured the beauty and complexity — the poetry — of the city and the region. We will present two of Hutton’s New York works, New York Portrait, Chapter II and Time and Tide. Snapshots of New York City in 1981 and a diary of a journey up the Hudson River register sky, water, and structures from the Statue of Liberty and skyscrapers to the boardwalk of Coney Island and the cooling towers of Indian Point. With an introduction by urban planner and principal of Interboro Partners, Daniel D’Oca.
